The AlChemiSSts project tests and demonstrates the applicability of the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework. This framework supports the development of innovative chemicals or materials to replace Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs). These replacements are intended for high-impact markets, including surfactants, plasticisers, and flame retardants in value chains such as metalworking fluids (MWFs), lubricants, insulation foams and paints, safety boots and wellies, battery cases, and sports mats. The project will identify barriers to SSbD implementation across the entire value chain, considering all life cycle stages for targeted substances, materials, and applications.
